Flood Control District of Maricopa County (District) created a half mile long, 80 foot-wide concrete floodwater conveyance channel which runs through Mesa and Apache Junction, Arizona. Situated near residential developments, the channel is designed to move floodwater into a companion storage basin.

When possible, the District seeks to blend new construction with the area’s natural surroundings. The picturesque desert landscape is important to area residents and a stark gray concrete flood control channel would contrast the surroundings. District investigated options to color the concrete to help this large channel blend easily into its environment.

“For the Siphon Draw channel, the Flood Control District wanted a concrete color that closely matched and complemented the naturally occurring soil and rocks in the surrounding landscape,” Dennis Holcomb stated, landscape architect for the District. Dennis is responsible for implementing the agency’s landscape and aesthetics vision.

Re-naturalization projects are gaining popularity with government and private sector organizations across the Southwest and beyond. As a result, the area has benefitted from the beauty, value and ease of use Natina brings. For help on your next project, contact us today.
