Project Overview, Nevada
A major Nevada corridor required new security fencing along a high-visibility stretch of highway. The owner and reviewing agencies prioritized aesthetics, security, and long-term durability, along with solutions that align with Department of Transportation (DOT) expectations for visual mitigation. To support these goals, steel security fencing was treated with Natina to help the corridor preserve the open landscape rather than disrupt it.
Design and Durability Challenge
Weather conditions can speed corrosion and cause shiny, untreated fencing to stand out across natural terrain. For DOT projects, this creates visual impact challenges that are often flagged during reviews and public outreach. The project team also needed a color solution that would not peel, chip, flake, or require the ongoing maintenance associated with paints, coatings, or vinyl finishes.
Natural Color Treatment
Natina delivered a natural, rustic brown finish that softens the appearance of galvanized steel and helps the fence blend with surrounding vegetation. The treatment reacts with the metal surface to form a stable, earth-toned finish that does not flake and requires minimal upkeep, if any. Natina keeps the galvanized layer intact, which maintains strength and corrosion protection for long-term performance in harsh environments.
The final result met the corridor’s security needs and supported agency requirements for visual mitigation and overall environmental compatibility.
Completed Results
Natina was proud to collaborate with engineers, field crews, and agency partners on this expansive installation. The finished fence protects the corridor while integrating into Nevada’s desert setting rather than distracting from it.
